Mt Etna
At about 3350 meters, Mt Etna, the highest mountain and the highest active volcano in Europe, in Sicily. Surrounded by many myths and legends, Mount Etna is a fascinating place to visit. Easily accessible, especially the young people go to the summit and a trip right to the top of the volcano, a true love experience. Cool throughout the year, Etna is a popular ski resort in winter. Nearby, the picturesque gorge Alcantara, Alcantara river, beautiful rock formations created by volcanic activity of Mt.
Agrigento – Valley of the Temples
Surrounded by olive trees and almond trees for its archaeological site in Agrigento, the Valley of the Temples famous. Here you will discover the remains of the fifth and six centuries BC Doric temple. Some of these are the most comprehensive of its time. The Temple of Concordia, on the eastern half of the country, is one of the best preserved temples of antiquity.
Aeolian islands
From the northern coast of Sicily, the Aeolian Islands active volcanoes and craters, rugged scenery, glistening black sand beaches and thermal pools with water sports galore. Only accessible by ferry from Milazzo and other mainland cities, the Aeolian Islands are a paradise for water sports and boating are popular. The breathtaking landscapes island are deep caverns, steep cliffs and beautiful coastlines. Much to offer the remains of the ancient Greek ruins of an insight into the ancient history of the region. Lipari, the largest island in the city, has a fine archaeological museum and an archaeological park, these islands are a wonderful escape destination.
Ancient caves Sicily
North West Sicily is home to a number of caves housing ancient drawings from the Stone Age and Neolithic. The Cala del Genovese Cave Houses 32 different designs are represented by different animals. Drawn from the ancient hunter-gatherers, these images date back to 9230 BC. Cave drawings in Addaura, looks like some of the most beautiful in Sicily clear images of people, some fine details in motion. Other drawings of historical re-experienced the old found in the lesser known Niscemi and Giovanna Puntali Caves represent typical scenes of life over 10,000 years.
